New Delhi: A gang war was averted in south Delhi after four members of the Prince Teotia gang were arrested in Madangir. They planned to shoot rival gang members but were caught before they could carry out the attack.
An inquiry revealed that one of the accused, who was recently released from jail on March 6, was assaulted by members of the rival gang while incarcerated. Upon his release, he and his associates began plotting to kill the rival gang members.
The accused were identified as Rakesh, Hunny Rawat, Rishu Prasad and Dilshad.
Deputy commissioner of police (South) Ankit Chauhan said they received information about the movements of the gang members in a car near Madangir. "They always carried firearms and deadly knives to counter any resistance. After confirming the credibility of the intelligence, the team set up a strategic trap near DDA flats, Madangir," the officer said.
At 10 pm on Thursday, one car was spotted in a suspicious condition. "The team intercepted the car, stopped the vehicle, and overpowered the four occupants. Upon a cursory search, three pistols with magazines containing six live cartridges, a country-made pistol with two live cartridges, and one car were recovered from their possession," the DCP said, adding that a case was registered.
Rakesh turned out to be a history-sheeter. He told the cops that he was in judicial custody since 2019 and was convicted in a case of attempted murder. Recently, he was granted bail in this case by the high court and was released on March 6. After his release, he reconnected with Rawat, Prasad and Dilshad.
"Rakesh further disclosed that he harboured a grudge against the members of the rival gang, as one of the members orchestrated an assault on him inside jail. He was targeting members of the rival gang residing in the areas of Ambedkar Nagar and Malviya Nagar as an act of revenge," the officer said further.
