NEW DELHI: The Parliament discussion on Operation Sindoor will begin on Monday, with defence minister Rajanth Singh leading the debate in Lok Sabha on India's crossborder anti-terror operation , which was undertaken to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.
Union home minister Amit Shah, foreign minister S Jaishankar, BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey will also take part in the Lower House debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to intervene in the discussion, reported news agency ANI, citing sources.
The discussion in the Rajya Sabha will take place on Tuesday, July 29. Both Houses will hold 16-hour discussions on the topic.
India’s Operation Sindoor, launched just past midnight on May 7, marked its most assertive military response yet to cross-border terrorism.
Triggered by the Pahalgam massacre - where tourists were targeted in a brutal execution-style killing - the Indian military executed coordinated strikes deep inside Pakistan, hitting high-value terrorist infrastructure.
The response was swift, multi-domain, and precise. India used stand-off weapons, including air-launched cruise missiles, loitering munitions, and long-range drones, to hit nine locations across Pakistan - including Muridke and Bahawalpur, the symbolic and operational hubs of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday amid sloganeering and protests by opposition members in the well of the house. The Lower House is set to meet next on July 28 at 11am.
The Rajya Sabha too was earlier adjourned at 2 PM, and is set to meet on Monday 11am.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Jagdambika Pal, chairing the Lok Sabha, urged the opposition members to maintain decorum in the house and let the private members bill be introduced so that discussion can take place. However, the rucuk did not stop, leading to the adjournment of the Houses for the day.
