NEW DELHI: Congress criticised the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government's health infrastructure citing several incidents of power cuts in key public hospitals. Calling out the Bhartiya Janata Party government for "boasting about its 'world class' health system", the grand old party said that the state's facilities were, in reality, "gasping for breath".
"The BJP government of UP never tires of boasting about its 'world class' health system, but in reality, its entire system is gasping for breath. The BJP government has neither any policy nor any intention to improve health facilities. People are suffering, suffering, dying... The government is having fun," it said.
The party shared a video, claiming it t be from the district hospital of Chitrakoot, in which the attendants could be seen fanning the patients due to power cut, given the intense heat. The TOI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
"This is the district hospital of Chitrakoot, where electricity is missing. Patients are suffering in this scorching heat, doctors are worried, attendants are fanning the patients with cloths while others are sitting with their mobile torches lit," the party said.
"But...this is not the first case. Earlier, similar pictures had emerged from Hardoi Medical College, where electricity was out and patients were suffering from heat. At the same time, in Bijnor Medical College, a young man lost his life due to power cut during dialysis," it added.
This follows the death of a kidney patient undergoing dialysis at Bijnor district hospital, where a power outage halted treatment and the backup generator failed due to lack of fuel.
