NEW DELHI: RJD MP Sudhakar Singh on Saturday alleged that a "sleeper cell" of the BJP and RSS were behind the abuse directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an opposition rally in Bihar , reiterating Congress 's earlier claim that "BJP agents" were planted to create a controversy.

His remarks come after a viral video from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar showed unidentified men hurling abuses at PM Modi and his mother, triggering a sharp political row. The rally was also attended by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

"Due to SIR, the situation was made so bad by the people of BJP, RSS and Election Commission that people were forced to come out on streets to safeguard their rights," Singh told PTI.

"Sleeper cell of RSS, BJP was activated... people of sleeper cell abused their own leaders in our events. It is good see such fear within BJP. For the first time, the BJP seems to be afraid of people coming out on streets against them," he added.

Earlier on Friday, Union home minister Amit Shah while addressing a rally in Guwahati said, "Congress leaders have committed the most condemnable act by using derogatory words against PM Modi's mother during their Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra. I condemn it. Every Congress leader has spoken derogatory words against PM Modi."

Congress, however, rejected the charge. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera claimed the abuses came from "BJP agents" planted at the rally to create a controversy.

"This remark has been made by their (BJP's) own agent. They just want to create an issue so that they can divert attention from our Yatra. Their theft has been caught, so these people are frustrated," Khera said.

He further demanded accountability saying, "Find out who that person is, who was arrested, whose man he is. The public is watching everything, and the entire country is watching the BJP's goondaism."
