VARANASI: A chaat seller's 18-month-old daughter succumbed on Saturday night to burn injuries which she had suffered after falling into a pot in which 'chhola' was being cooked at her home in Duddhi area of Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district.
Her elder sister had died two years ago in a similar manner, after falling into a utensil in which 'daal' was being cooked, reports Rajeev Dikshit.
Duddhi circle officer Rajesh Kumar Rai said on Sunday that the family cremated the girl without informing police. When cops reached the house, it became clear it was an accidental death. The girl's father, Shailendra, informed officials that his wife was boiling chickpeas for 'golgappas' Friday. She had gone to another room when their daughter, Priya, while playing, fell into the large vessel. Hearing her screams, the mother rushed to rescue her and took her to a local hospital. In view of her condition, doctors referred her to the district hospital, where she succumbed Saturday.
