Real Madrid secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Getafe at the Coliseum on Wednesday, maintaining their pursuit of Spanish league leader Barcelona. Arda Güler's first-half goal kept Madrid within four points of Barcelona, who had won their match against Mallorca 1-0 on Tuesday.

Carlo Ancelotti opted to rest several key players ahead of Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Barcelona in Seville. Brazil forward Endrick made his first Spanish league start, while Vinícius Júnior was substituted in the second half and Jude Bellingham entered as a substitute.

The match saw injury concerns for Madrid as Eduardo Camavinga and David Alaba suffered muscle injuries. Camavinga replaced Alaba at halftime but had to leave the field in the final minutes.

"We'll see, but it's unlikely that they will be available on Saturday," Ancelotti said.

The victory holds special significance for Madrid, who had previously suffered heavy defeats to Barcelona this season, including a 5-2 loss in the Spanish Super Cup final and a 4-0 defeat in their first league encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Güler scored the decisive goal in the 21st minute with a well-placed right-footed shot.

"Fortunately, I scored the goal that gave us the three points. We knew it was going to be a tough match. It was important to give us confidence for the final," Güler said.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made crucial saves late in the match to preserve Madrid's win, their third consecutive league victory following their Champions League elimination against Arsenal.

The match was briefly interrupted due to Getafe fans chanting against Dani Ceballos. Getafe, now in 12th place, continued their poor form with their third consecutive loss.

In other matches, Celta Vigo climbed to seventh place with a 3-0 victory over fifth-place Villarreal. Fer López, Borja Iglesias, and Iago Aspas scored for Celta, while Villarreal played with ten men after Eric Bailly's red card in the 37th minute.

Athletic Bilbao strengthened their hold on fourth place with a 1-0 win over Las Palmas, thanks to Iñaki Williams' early goal. The victory gave Bilbao an eight-point cushion over fifth-place Villarreal.

Alaves moved out of the relegation zone by defeating Real Sociedad 1-0, with Nahuel Tenaglia scoring the winner in the 65th minute.
