Raj Kapoor was Raj Kapoor because he didn't follow any model

Ranbir Kapoor once said that we are all offshoots of movies made by Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy, Mehboob Khan, Shekhar Kapur, and other great filmmakers. "We have taken so much inspiration, but it’s your way of saying it. It’s your perception of life and what you have absorbed as a person, and then you want to flow into that story. And that’s why it’s different and individualistic. So, yeah, heavily influenced, but you have to be individualistic to make a mark.”

At one point, when someone from the audience began singing one of Raj Kapoor’s iconic songs, Ranbir spontaneously joined in, declaring, “That’s my anthem. That’s my favourite song.The first song I made my daughter, Raha, listen to was Kisi ki muskurahaton pe ho nisaar. If you just listen to the lyrics, they’re so simple, yet they offer such a profound philosophy to live by.”
