JK Rowling and the internet hail Martine Croxall, the news presenter who corrected 'pregnant people' to 'women' on-air

A clip is going viral on social media in which Martine Croxall , a BBC newsreader corrected an autocue that said ' pregnant people ' instead of 'women'

While reading the information about a new research on the number of heat-related deaths expected during Britain's current heatwave, Croxall, went on to warn 'pregnant people' to take care in the heat.

However, after reading the term once she overrode it with 'women' with a smirk and eyebrow raise.

"Malcolm Mistry, who was involved in the research, said the aged, pregnant people - women! - and those with pre-existing health conditions need to take precautions," she said.

JK Rowling , quickly took to X to praise Croxall, sharing a clip and writing, "I have a new favourite BBC presenter."

Additionally, many on the internet were heaping praises on Croxall's corrective move.


"Who the f*** thought it was OK to write "pregnant people"... They're women, there's no doubt about it," wrote a person on X.

"At least there’s one BBC news presenter that has common sense. Well done Martine." added another.

However, there were many who feared for her career ahead as she had made a move that the BBC would probably not appreciate or tolerate. "She won't be seen on TV ever again. A BBC News presenter is told to say 'Pregnant People' but corrects the teleprompter and says 'Women' Her bosses will not be happy" wrote an X user.

"Soon to be ex-presenter, no doubt. The BBC doesn’t tolerate dissent. Unless your first name is Gary," added another.
