Ranchi: A jeweller was shot at during an attempted robbery at his shop in Chatakpur locality under Ratu police station in Ranchi on Thursday.
Basant Kumar, the victim, sustained a bullet wound to his shoulder when two unidentified criminals attempted to loot his shop. He is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and is reported to be out of danger.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred when two armed men entered Kumar's shop and demanded access to the cash box. When Kumar resisted and raised an alarm, the assailants opened fire before fleeing the scene. Local residents attempted to apprehend the criminals but were unsuccessful.
Ram Narayan, officer in-charge of Ratu Police Station, said, "We will question the victim once his condition improves. The forensic science laboratory team has examined the crime scene, and we are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators."
Kumar is currently undergoing surgery to remove the bullet. Police have launched an investigation, and technical teams are gathering evidence to trace the criminals. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
