Liechtenstein is one of the smallest countries of Europe, located between Austria and Switzerland., its capital is Vaduz - and the villages across the country are linked by walking trails. Liechtenstein is also a place where high-tech and manufacturing are extremely well established, which adds to the financial stability of the country.

Liechtenstein was revealed as the European destination with the fewest visitors, in 2024, tourists spent over 200,000 nights in this principality, according to data from leading cruise and tour operator Riviera Travel.
Joanne Lynn, head of European travel product at leading cruise and tour operator Riviera Travel, said: "Latest figures reveal Europe's true hidden gems. As overtourism concerns grow throughout the travel industry, particularly across Europe, travellers seek alternative destinations away from the crowds, where they can fully immerse themselves in their holidays without the bustle.
"While the top 10 includes destinations similar to those found in 2023, like Luxembourg and Estonia, new hidden gems have emerged, including Liechtenstein."
The tourism website for Liechtenstein (en.tourismus.li) describes "unforgettable outdoor experiences" which they say "can be found between high mountains and deep valleys".
The website added: "And if you are looking for relaxation, you will find quiet places to take a deep breath and enjoy yourself. Best of all, you can be anywhere within 30 minutes - whether by car or public transport."
Liechtenstein has the densest network of hiking trails in Europe, with 400km of hiking trails throughout the whole country, website for Liechtenstein (en.tourismus.li) explains.
The diverse hiking trails in a varied landscape are just one of the activities to enjoy, with 'leisurely hikes' or 'challenging mountain tours' offering something for everyone.

But Liechtenstein is also full of art galleries, intriguing museums, pretty little villages and several medieval castles including Vaduz Castle, which overlooks the capital city, Vaduz - and it's the official palace residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein.
