For any thrill-seekers out there, are great places to visit. From terrifying rollercoasters to haunted houses, there is plenty to do and see. And that's also the case for biggest theme park that happens to be in .
, located in , , has been built on an abandoned and is now one of the top attractions in the region. According to , the company that operates it, the theme park offers 16 thrilling rides, seven family rides, 21 kids' rides, Jump City Trampoline Park, an underground mine tour, and a 4D theatre.
The park sits just south of Johannesburg's city centre on a former gold mine that closed in 1971.
Its design is themed around the gold rush era of the late 19th century, which earned Johannesburg the nickname the "City of Gold".
The city remains Africa's richest, with over 12,000 millionaires, according to .
Gold Reef City spans around 45 acres and features rides like the Anaconda - the world's only Giovanola inverted coaster - and the Tower of Terror, a vertical drop rollercoaster plunging riders into an old mine shaft with a terrifying 6.3 g-force.
Other favourites include the Golden Loop, UFO spinner ride, and the Giant Wheel offering sweeping views over the city.
Beyond the rides, visitors can explore a real underground gold mine.
According to , guests descend into Mine Shaft 14, wearing hard hats and torches to learn about Johannesburg's gold mining history.
Tours descend as far as 226 metres underground and include a gold-pouring demonstration.
Gold Reef City also features a museum dedicated to mining history, as well as Johannesburg's Apartheid Museum, which opened nearby in 2001.
Those looking for a more relaxed experience can enjoy a variety of restaurants, fast food outlets, retail stores, and even a Victorian-style wedding chapel dating back to 1879.
Recent visitors have praised the park on . One said: "There is an awesome ride at the park called Tower of Terror.
"It is a very short ride but one you shouldn't miss if you love scary, fast, drop-type rides."
Another visitor added: "This is unlike any theme park I've ever been to. It is smaller than places like Disneyland Paris but has so much to offer. The mine tour was also amazing."
Entry to Gold Reef City is reasonably priced, with general admission tickets costing R265 - around £11. Parking at the park is free.
