A famous actress has revealed the secret ingredient she includes in her spaghetti Bolognese, and it even wowed a celebrity chef, who was taken aback by the surprise element of the dish. Spaghetti Bolognese is a simple Italian dish to make that has become a staple in many British households, because it is easy to make and tends to be a crowd-pleaser. However, there are ways you can improve it even more to make it a show-stopping meal.

The British actress, known for her performances in Oppenheimer and The Devil Wears Prada, met up with celebrity chef Ina Garten to appear on an episode of her show Be My Guest. During the show, she took Ina through her Spaghetti Bolognese recipe, which she makes with turkey instead of beef, and revealed that she uses one unexpected ingredient to elevate it. "I promise you, it really tenderises the meat and gets it really delicious and yummy," she says of the surprise ingredient.

Ina was taken aback when the actress admitted that she puts milk in her Spaghetti Bolognese. This makes it tastier and creamier, Blunt says.

She starts her Spaghetti Bolognese by adding carrots and celery to a food processor. Then, she adds whole milk. While making the sauce, she only simmers it on the stovetop for a couple of minutes.

This is due to a tip she received from her brother-in-law, fellow The Devil Wears Prada star Stanky Tucci. Rather than cooking it all in a pan, she lets the oven do most of the work.

She revealed: "I've done it both ways. When it goes in the oven it kind of melts it down and gets it really caramel-ly and yummy. And then you can just walk away."

She said she does this because Stanley, who met Emily's sister after the two actors starred in the 2006 film together, told her that a proper Italian Spaghetti Bolognese should not be too saucy. "I've got a good tip from Stanley Tucci: He says [the bolognese] should be a little drier, not as saucy."

Putting it into the oven means it will get thicker, which is also helped by the milk.
