Keeping my outside space looking tidy is not something I ever needed to worry about until I moved into my family home. My old single life bachelor pad had a tiny garden that needed no upkeep whatsoever. And now, me and my wife own two wooden deckings, a patio and a block paving driveway and it all gets covered in dirt and looks miserable within a couple of months of British rain.
That's why I decided we needed powerful machines to help overcome these problems - and naturally that meant investing in a pressure washer.
I'm not flush with cash (hey, I'm a journalist not a banker) so I wanted a value for money way to clean our driveway, decking, patio and my car without breaking the bank.
So I plumped for this Ryobi 110 bar pressure washer with a 1400W. At just £90, it's well kitted out with a trigger gun, spray wand and lots of accessories. It can burn through 390 litres per hour and is powerful enough to clean cars, patios, garden furniture and decking without issue.
The pressure washer is £93.99 full price, but right now, Amazon has discounted it by £75. That's a saving of 20%.

The first thing I used it for was blitzing a grimey glass table that had been rained on for months and developed a fine layer of algae on it. Within just a few minutes, it went from grubby to gleaming.
If anything it was almost too powerful. Using the focused trigger attachment, its concentrated spray can strip the weather proofing straight off wooden decking. I learned that sometimes less is more, and you need to use the broad setting and not get too close in order to clean without damage if you're using it on wood or furniture.
But it really works. It lifts algae and grime straight off the block paving. It blasts mould off wood, and it strips dirt from your car.
It's also really useful for cleaning off hard to reach places - it cleaned my car's wheel cover alloys to a gleaming shine within seconds, a task that usually involves me crouching on the floor scrubbing with a bucket and sponge.
The only downside right now is that I live in Yorkshire. Despite the October weather, we are still under a hosepipe ban, and I'm a stickler for the rules, so I haven't used it since the summer before the ban was put in place. That shouldn't be an issue for most parts of the UK though.
Reviewers on Amazon have been very positive about it on the whole. One said: "Quick delivery. Easy to assemble ( two screws for the handle ) connecting hose and spray gun was easy, took me few minutes to assemble it, works very well, good quality and has recently helped me clean my neighbours timber decking, my patio and concrete driveway. No issues at all."
Another said: "I was a bit skeptical about buying a Ryobi product, as i have never owned one before, I did my own research with different models ie Karcher & a few others and boy was I wrong! This pressure washer is awesome, easy to put together, three year warranty what more can you ask for considering the price, Only drawback i had to purchase a different connector for my hose, so be prepared. If you don't fancy spending double the price for the same pressure washer elsewhere This is the one you should buy."
One user did say theirs broke after 18 months though: "Impressive for 18 months but now, two years down the line.....broken. Not working. Recently been waiting longer for pressure to build up in the spray. Disappointed as I thought Ryobi was an ok manufacturer."
If you'd rather use a better-known brand, Amazon has the Karcher equivalent of this model on sale right now, bringing it down to almost the same price, at £98. Karcher's also has 110 bar of pressure and comes with a rotating brush as well. It has a slightly lower flow rate - 360 litres per hour - but that's still plenty good enough.
If you just want to go all-in, Bosch has a blistering 1900W power, 450 litre per hour beast of a pressure washer which is on sale at Amazon right now, down from £199.99 to £135.
The Karcher K5 Power Control Flex pressure washer is discounted directly from the Karcher website. Usually retailing for £379.99, it's currently on sale for £319.99.
