Now that summer is fully upon us, plenty of gardeners will be looking out over their lawns and lamenting the patchy bits, the dying grass, and the loss of lushness that comes with the weather and wear and tear. Fertiliser is a great way to get the lawn looking ship-shape, but many types are toxic for pets and humans alike, putting off those with furry friends and little ones that like to roll around in the grass.
However, those on the hunt for a pe and child-friendly fertiliser are in luck, as the Westland SafeLawn Child and Pet Friendly Natural Lawn Feed is now £25.97 down from £29.99 at Amazon, in a 14kg pack that has enough product to cover 400 m2 of lawn. This organic fertiliser has added lawn seed to help fill in any patches, and is made with only natural ingredients.
The fertiliser helps ensure grass is getting all the nutrition it needs, and the added lawn seed keeps it looking lush and full. It's easy to apply, too: simply scatter the granules evenly to ensure complete and even lawn coverage, and for outstanding results gardeners can safely double this application rate.
If shoppers want an alternative lawn fertiliser, they could try the Phostrogen Lawn Food from Toolstation, which costs £22.98 for 15kg and is also child- and pet-friendly. Or, there's the Spring Boost Lawn Fertiliser for £16.99 for a pack which covers 100 m2, is child and pet safe, and promises results within 7 days.
The Westland fertiliser has great reviews on Amazon, with shoppers rating it a high 4.3 stars. One shopper said: "Transformation is amazing, use it every year."
Another added: "I've bought this many times over the years as I like the fact that it is both pet and child safe rather than simply being full of harmful chemicals. As it's a bit more 'natural' it does have a bit more smell to it but that clears quickly and it's not one of these extreme green fertilisers that work in a few days. This will take a couple of weeks but you get lovely green healthy grass. I use a hand spreader which is nice quick and easy and the large sack is great value for money."
A third said: "After 2 weeks the grass looks amazing. It has rapidly grown it is green and the moss is no longer a problem. Well worth the money and time and effort."
However, some found it wasn't quite right for their lawns. One buyer said: "Works ok but still have moss."
Another wrote: "Good for colour but not much else. I'm very happy with how it's clearly helped improve the depth of colour of the lawn but it in no way managed the moss or clover or any of the weeds. It's difficult to say I'd recommend it but I've tried others and a similar result so it's as good as others I guess."
However, those looking for a way to brighten up their lawn without causing harm to their pets and family members, the Westland SafeLawn Child and Pet Friendly Natural Lawn Feed may well be worth a try.
