Luke Littler has mocked on Florian Wirtz on social media following Manchester United's 2-1 win over Liverpool. The PDC World Champion - who will be defending his crown later this year - likened the 22-year-old playmaker to cartoon character 'Ben 10' after failing to find the net in his opening 10 appearances for the Reds.
Liverpool forked out £116m to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer window, shattering the club's transfer record, which was later topped by Alexander Isak's arrival. Since penning a five-year contract at Anfield, the Germany international has struggled to make his mark, losing his spot in Arne Slot's starting XI.
Wirtz, who has started just one of Liverpool's previous four Premier League fixtures, came on to replace Conor Bradley after 60 minutes. After another disappointing display on Sunday afternoon, the Germany star's barren run has now stretched to 10 matches without a single goal contribution.
In the aftermath of the weekend's encounter, Littler, renowned as a passionate United supporter, didn't hold back on social media. On his Instagram story, he wrote: "YANITED, YANITED, YANITED, where's the scousers at back under your rock you go CAUSE WE ARE MAN UNITED AND WE ARE NEVER GONNA STOP."
Alongside two Transfermarkt screenshots comparing Harry Maguire to Wirtz, Littler cleverly edited in an image of 'Ben 10'. The 18-year-old darting star also accompanied his post with Kendrick Lamar's track Not Like Us.
Speaking at the launch of Target Darts' new pop-up shop in Manchester city centre last month, Littler expressed his support for Amorim. He said: "Obviously people are saying 'Amorim out' but you've got to look at the players.
"Some of them don't fit the system, I don't think. I think it's going to be very tough but as long as we get into the top-eight Conference League, that's what I'm hoping for."
United climbed to ninth place over the weekend, and they're just three points behind Manchester City in second. After securing consecutive victories for the first time as United manager, Amorim reflected on a 'very special' win.
"Every day is special [as United boss] but this was a very special win," he said. "To see our fans singing during the game, in a moment that the biggest rival are champions, on their field and at their stadium, this win is all about our fans and the spirit of the team because I believe we can play so much better.
"We will analyse the game in the same way we analyse the other ones, try to see the good things and bad things. But, for me, the togetherness they [the players] showed during this game, that is special for me."
Amorim added: "I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United. It means a lot today but tomorrow it won't mean a lot. It's three points and it's a good victory."
