New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese foreign minister Wabg Yi on Tuesday and said that relations between the two countries have made ‘steady progress’ over the last one year.
“Glad to meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Since my meeting with President Xi in Kazan last year, India-China relations have made steady progress guided by respect for each other’s interests and sensitivities,” Modi posted on X.
The Prime Minister said that stable, constructive and predictable relations between India and China will promote regional and global peace.
“I look forward to our next meeting in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. Stable, predictable, constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional as well as global peace and prosperity,” he said.
The Chinese foreign minister handed over the invitation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit to PM Modi during Tuesday’s meeting. The Summit which he will attend this year. The SCO Summit is being held from August 31 to September 1.
Modi thanked Chinese president Xi Jinping for the invitation to the Summit and conveyed his acceptance.
Wang also shared his positive assessment of the bilateral meeting with EAM S Jaishankar and the 24th Meeting of the Special Representatives, which he co-chaired with NSA Ajit Doval during his visit.
“Prime Minister emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity on the border, and reiterated India’s commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question,” the PMO said in a press release.
Following his meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Chinese foreign minister said that the warming of ties between India and China holds great significance ahead of PM Modi’s visit to China for the Summit.
“The Chinese side attaches great importance to the Prime Minister’s visit to China to attend the SCO summit at our invitation. We believe that the Indian side will also make your contribution to a successful summit in Tianjin,” Wang said.
The minister appreciated the developments in the bilateral ties since the meeting of PM Modi and Xi in Kazan last year, noting that it “pointed the direction for the development of our bilateral relations and provided impetus for the proper settlement of the boundary question.”
