Liverpool remain keen on landing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace but do not agree with their £40million valuation given he is available for nothing come next summer. They also want to avoid a lengthy saga should they pursue the centre-half.
The Eagles defender has established himself as an England regular and is one of the leading lights at Selhurst Park, captaining them on the FA Cup only months ago. However Guehi has no desire to sign a new deal in south London and could leave for free in 12 months.
It would represent a huge loss for Palace, who turned down the chance to land £65m from Newcastle when they chased Guehi last summer. If Liverpool are to move for the defender then it will revolve solely around the price being quoted.
The Reds have already spent £200m this summer but are keen on making additions to their defence. Guehi has a lot of positives going for him but those on Merseyside have little interest in negotiations that drag on for weeks, reports the BBC.
As it stands Liverpool believe Palace's asking price of £40m is too high given his situation and the prospect of signing him for free later down the line.

Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea have all registered varying degrees of interest in Guehi since the end of the season. The defender was once on the Blues' books and the west Londoners have made a habit of letting players go only to re-sign them later in their careers.
Liverpool themselves have several moving pieces when it comes to their defensive picture. They have allowed Jarell Quansah to leave for Bayer Leverkusen this summer and, as things stand, Ibrahima Konate is out of contract next summer and has shown little interest in signing a new deal.

He is thought to be keen on a move to Real Madrid. Joe Gomez is again dealing with an injury issue, which leaves Virgil van Dijk as the team's defensive leader. However landing Guehi to partner the Dutchman could prove a huge coup for the Premier League champions.
Palace face the risk of losing several of their major names this summer. 12 months ago they saw Michael Olise leave and Eberechi Eze is now heavily being courted by Arsenal with the player himself keen on making the move across London.
