Notorious Mexican drug lord El Chapo has been complaining about his time spent in an isolated prison cell, having filed an amended federal complaint - saying he misses the sun and his wife.
Joaquín Guzmán, the infamousdruglord, better known as El Chapo, has made numerous complaints about the unusual conditions he faces after more than eight years confined inside a prison cell in the U.S. He currently remains under the strictest type of regime on offer at the ADX Florence federal prison in Colorado.
The 68-year-old criminal has seen a rapid deterioration of his health as he moans about a lack of sunlight and close-to-no contact with his family, and his legal team are deciding to finally take action. Their aims are to help soften the conditions of his confinement – during a time when other famed drug lords are in negotiations with the government.

Guzmán is under an extreme regime as a part of the Special Administrative Measures programme, which limits the communication of particular inmates deemed especially dangerous. His attorney Mariel Colón shared in an interview with Mileniothat El Chapo's defence is based on two main arguments.
The first one being his "physical and mental deterioration" caused by total isolation and lack of sunlight, especially away from his loved ones, reports state. As well as this, they highlighted the fact that any alleged "flight risks" that motivated such strict confinement in the first place have now "completely diminished".
El Chapo himself produced a handwritten letter to the prison authorities to further explain the severity of his living conditions. The letter was shown to Milenio, and they claimed that it states the only activity he engages in is when he's taken out for recreation, which happens three days a week for three hours. He wrote: "But the sun doesn't shine where they take me because the walls are too high."
The most recent attempt made to ease the imprisonment of the Sinaloa Cartel co-founder highlights that his former business partner and sons are already detained. Meaning this would reduce the flight risk cited by authorities which led to him being in extreme confinement.
It's worth noting that various human rights organisations have cited the conditions at ADX Florence to be "inhumane". Each cell is built to be less than four square metres in size and is decked out with surveillance cameras, concrete furniture and soundproofing.
Court documents and forensic reports show that before his years spent in confinement, El Chapo was already experiencing symptoms of hypertension, anxiety, insomnia, auditory hallucinations and more, Infobae reports. Meanwhile, since his prison sentence, family members have reported that they've noticed worsening conditions, including muscle cramps, headaches, high blood pressure, depressive episodes, and constant stress.
The former drug lord is also desperate to see his family, with his defence team seeking to grant him visitation beyond just his lawyers. This will include his twin daughters whom he shares with his wife, Emma Coronel, who remains under federal supervision.
These restrictions form part of her own sentence, as she continues to serve four years of probation after spending two and a half years in prison for drug trafficking as well as money laundering. His attorney told Milenio: "We're looking for him to have contact with his sisters eventually, when his wife, Mrs (Emma) Coronel, finishes her probation, which she still has a year left...
"Even if it's monitored, so he can have some kind of contact. So he can have some kind of contact with his sisters and with other children he has, sons and daughters, that he has in Mexico who aren't being accused of anything."
