Edinburgh Princes Street: Mystery as man found dead on major UK high street

An investigation has been launched after the discovery of a man's dead body on a major UK high street.

The unidentifiied man was found opposite the Mound in the city centre of Edinburgh at around 6am this morning.

Police raced to the scene after receiving reports of an unresponsive male before paramedics tried to revive him. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cops said they're treating the death as unexplained and enquiries are being carried out to establish what happened.

A huge cordon has been erected on one part of the street, close to Uniqlo, after police locked down the area, with a forensic tent seen on the high street.

One concerned passer-by said: "Police incident on Princes Street at the foot of the mound. Princes Street closed east bound."

According to Edinburgh Live, locals were made aware of the incident around 7am this morning. There is a huge emergency response, with several police and ambulance vehicles.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6am on Wednesday, 25 June, we received a report of an unresponsive man on Princes Street in Edinburgh. Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Commuters are being warned to expect delays to the bus and tram services that run through the city.

A statement from Lothian Buses read: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve part of Princes Street and are instead diverted via Frederick Street, George Street and South St David Street eastbound until further notice.”

Edinburgh Trams said: “Due to a police incident, Princes Street is closed. We are part route between West End and Edinburgh Airport in both directions. Ticket acceptance is in place with Lothian Buses.”
