The life and career of former Liverpoolplayer Diogo Jota was honoured with a heartfelt tribute at Monday night's Ballon d'Or ceremony, with his widow Rute Cardoso in attendance at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Tragically, on July 3, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were killed in a car accident while travelling through the Zamora region of Northern Spain. Since then, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of love for the two footballers, as well as support for their family and former colleagues.
The latest act of remembrance came during the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony, where a touching tribute and message were delivered to the Liverpool star's family.

"This summer the football family was left in shock when we learned of the passing of Diogo Jota, who lost his life alongside his brother, Andre Silva," said host Kate Scott.
Dutch legend Ruud Gullit added: "Jota was a fan favourite who gave everything for his club and his nation, and was loved by his teammates, and supporters. Together, let us remember them."
A video reel was then shown, featuring highlights of the two Portuguese stars' best moments of their careers, along with the tributes that have been paid to them on-field in the months since their passing.
Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker looked emotional as they applauded with the rest of the crowd, as did Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal star Joao Neves.
Following the event, Scott expressed: "We do know that their family are actually here with us this evening so we would just like to say we are so sorry for your loss."

Cardoso, who had tied the knot with her long-term partner Jota just 11 days before his heartbreaking death, was seen arriving at the venue alongside Liverpool's contingent.
This included Reds head coach Arne Slot, who was in the running for the Johan Cruyff Trophy for best men's coach of 2025, along with his coaching team. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was also present, as were Van Dijk and Alisson.
The skipper secured the 28th spot in the top 30 for the Ballon d'Or, which was announced hours prior to the ceremony, while the goalkeeper was nominated for the Yashin Trophy for the best men's goalkeeper of 2025.
Mohamed Salah was still in the race for the main award with the top 10 set to be revealed live during the ceremony. As per Egyptian news outlet winwin, Salah gave the ceremony a miss without providing any explanation so far.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister also confirmed his absence from the event due to 'personal reasons'.
