All of us carry a part of our heritage along with us through the things we collect, in the ways we converse, and the rhythms of our daily lives. Yet, there is something truly special about coming together to celebrate all this in a grand way and with all your heart.
And, when it comes to doing that, Goa truly knows how it’s done best.
Highlighting the State’s legacy, passed down through generations and traditions that have shaped its unique identity, the Heritage Festival, organised by the Goa Tourism department, is set to take place against the charming backdrop of Saligao village, in North Goa, from May 9 to 11.
A showcase of Goa’s living traditions, artistic expressions and the vibrant spirit of the community, the three-day celebration will feature a spectacular blend of traditional Goan music, folk dances, fashion shows and live performances.
“Through such festivals, we aim to create a deeper awareness of Goa’s cultural identity and support that uplifts our people, preserves our heritage and boosts the local economy,” says the Director of Goa Tourism, Kedar Naik, who aims to provide a platform to local self-help groups while displaying Goan heritage and culture in a big way.

The opening night will feature stunning folk performances like a Lamp Dance and Dekhni by the Kanta Gaude Troupe.
Adding to the celebrations, a fashion show curated by D'Mello will also take centre stage.
“I’ve always taken pride in showcasing the Kunbi saree,” says Verma who has presented her work in numerous fashion shows.
The Kunbi fabric, deeply rooted to , inspires her collection. Drawing from its rich history, Verma researched how the garment was traditionally worn and made, and through her work wants to show people from all walks of life, especially youngsters, how they can embrace this heritage.

“I’m depicting a story, an emotion. I want people to feel happy,” she says adding that even foreigners have shown interest in this fabric, and how it is woven using natural dyes.
Day 1 will conclude with a live music performance by noted Goan singer, Siddhanath Buyao, and his band.
The celebrations will continue on Day 2 with the Kanta Gaude Troupe performing the special Goff dance and also Veerbhadra.
The evening will witness a lively performance by Raaga – The Band, which will be followed by a felicitation and a soulful set by renowned Goan singer Sonia Shirsat and her band, who will be returning to perform at the festival.
“It’s a beautiful festival. It’s a place where you get to see different things, different types of music, different kinds of stalls, and of course, its bang opposite the beautiful Saligao Church,” the singer says, adding that on Saturday, she will be performing Konkani tunes and will be joined by a band.
“Apart from the regular instruments like keyboards and drums, the band will also include the saxophone and trumpet, that'll be a treat to the ears and eyes,” adds Shirsat, urging people to come with their families, children and friends to experience the music.
On the final day, the Kanta Gaude Troupe will captivate the audience showcasing Jagor and Corridinho, the latter being a Portuguese-influenced . The night will conclude with energetic performances by Rasam Band and Black Sapphire Band.
Preserving and promoting Goa’s intangible cultural heritage, the festival invites locals and visitors alike to witness this magic and live entertainment, and reconnect with authentic folk that have shaped Goa's unique identity. You definitely don’t want to miss it!
