Mumbai: A 42-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her sister’s residence in Mumbai on April 14, reportedly due to emotional distress linked to an extramarital affair.
The incident occurred around 10:50 am when the deceased, identified as Sangeeta Santosh Pawar (42), used a scarf to hang herself from a ceiling fan at her sister’s home in Harharwala Building, Delisle Road, under the jurisdiction of NM Joshi Marg Police Station.
Sangeeta, who originally lived in Thane with her husband Santosh and their daughter, had been staying with her sister at the time of the incident. Police reached the spot and sent the body to Nair Hospital for a postmortem examination.
According to police sources, a suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which the name of a man, Datta Chorge, was mentioned. Initial investigations suggest that Sangeeta may have been involved in an extramarital relationship with Chorge, which possibly led her to take the extreme step.
While the police have launched a search for Chorge, no abetment to suicide case has been registered yet. Currently, the case has been classified as an accidental death, and statements from family members and acquaintances are being recorded to determine the exact motive.
Further investigation is ongoing.
