Benchmark Indian equity indices opened on a flat note on Wednesday, weighed down by weak global cues. The BSE Sensex started Wednesday's trading session at 80,694.98, lower by 15.27 points or 0.02 per cent, while the Nifty50 opened at 24,652.50, up 2.95 points or 0.01 per cent.
Bharat Electronics, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India, and Mahindra & Mahindra were among the top gainers on the Sensex, while Infosys, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, and Eicher Motors were among the top laggards after the markets opened on Wednesday. Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100, and Nifty Smallcap100 indices were trading with gains of 0.21 per cent and 0.03 per cent, respectively.
The sectoral indices traded on a mixed note, with Nifty Metal, Auto, PSU Bank, and Realty trading with gains, while IT, FMCG, and Financial Services were trading lower.
