Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The familiar buzz of Indore’s railway station is set to get a modern twist. On Tuesday morning, the city took its first step toward a long-awaited dream — turning its railway station into a swanky, airport-style hub, complete with modern comforts and multi-storey amenities.
The target is to complete the construction work before Simhastha 2028. Amid chants of Vedic mantras, MP Shankar Lalwani led the bhoomi pujan, offering prayers and worshipping the construction machines to start the first phase of the reconstruction.
Later, talking to the media, Lalwani said that the redevelopment work is not just a construction plan, but a historic step taken in view of the future needs of the city. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, under whose leadership the city railway Station is being developed in accordance with modern India.
Our priority is that passengers should not face any inconvenience during the work and all the services of the station should continue to run smoothly.
The new station building will rise to seven storeys, featuring upgraded passenger lounges, clean and accessible platforms, digital services, better crowd management, and an overall airport-like experience — something Indore’s growing population has long been waiting for.

Importantly, train services will continue as usual, even as cranes, mixers, and workers reshape the station around them. The railway administration has clarified that full care will be taken of the safety and convenience of the passengers during the construction work. All rail services, ticketing and platform operations will continue as before.
Three-phase redevelopment
Redevelopment work will be done in three phases. In the first phase, construction has started at the designated place of the parcel office, which is targeted to be completed in about one and a half months. The entire station reconstruction work will be completed in about 3 years.
