Mumbai News: Retired FSL Employee Duped Of ₹13 Lakh In Cyber Fraud

A 62-year-old woman, who retired as a deputy director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Thane, has been duped of Rs13.41 lakh in a cyber fraud. The complainant, a resident of Sion, approached the central cyber police station after discovering multiple unauthorised transactions across her bank accounts.

According to the complainant, she was trying to contact SBI's toll-free number when she received a call from a person claiming to be a banker. The fraudster convinced her to activate the bank's YONO app through a WhatsApp call and asked her to install an APK file to enable mobile banking features.

Unsuspecting, the senior citizen followed the instructions. The next day, she received SMS alerts about several transactions. Upon visiting the branch, the woman learned that Rs11.11 lakh had been transferred from her four accounts, while the remaining amount was siphoned through withdrawals.

Realising she had been duped, the woman immediately lodged a complaint on the cyber crime helpline 1930. A case has now been registered against two unidentified individuals and the unknown beneficiaries who received the stolen funds.
