Energy Minister Mr. Pradyuman Singh Tomar stated that M.P. Power Transmission Company (M.P. Transco), one of the country’s leading power transmission companies, has taken another technological leap by implementing and initiating the use of Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment (FOTE) technology at its Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations. This technology is being introduced in phases across various substations in Madhya Pradesh. It marks a significant step toward making the protection, communication, and monitoring systems of transmission elements more advanced, faster, and reliable.
Mr. Tomar further mentioned that this ambitious project is being implemented across the state by dividing it into three zones. The technology has been applied to Extra High Voltage substations and generation substations connected with M.P. Transco.
Real-Time Monitoring Made Easier:-
Mr. Manish Khare, Superintending Engineer who played a key role in planning and tendering this project at M.P. Transco, explained that FOTE is a state-of-the-art optoelectronic device. It is used for the automation, teleprotection, and monitoring of fiber optic networks, equipment, and systems. With the help of this technology, real-time monitoring of transformers and other critical equipment at substations has become possible. In the future, this system will also enable centralized settings for protection relays and fault reports.
Successful Implementation of FOTE through OPGW in the Transmission System:-
The state’s transmission system has successfully implemented Fiber Optic Transmission Equipment (FOTE) via OPGW (Optical Ground Wire). With a dedicated communication system in place, M.P. Transco is now able to achieve real-time data transmission, enhanced monitoring, faster communication, and high-level cyber security in system operations using this technology.
