Vidhana Soudha becomes a night icon; to light up every weekend and public holiday

Good news for Bengalureans! The iconic Vidhana Soudha , which is a symbol of Karnataka’s governance and architectural grandeur, now has a new identity. On a colourful evening recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a permanent illumination system. This stunning light display, accompanied by traditional drumming and music, is poised to become a visual highlight of Bengaluru’s cultural landscape.

The newly introduced illumination isn't just a beautification effort—it’s a celebration of Karnataka’s democratic spirit, cultural pride, and architectural heritage. From now on, the Vidhana Soudha will light up every weekend and public holiday between 6:30 PM and 10 PM offering residents and tourists a visual treat that reflects the soul of the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reflected on the deeper symbolism of the Vidhana Soudha, reminding everyone of its purpose beyond governance. “People have chosen and sent us to Vidhana Soudha to give justice to even the most marginalised people of the state. We should strive hard to achieve the idea behind constructing this building,” he said, underlining the institution's moral and democratic responsibilities.

The launch ceremony was attended by a host of senior leaders and dignitaries, signaling strong support from the administration. Among those present were Ministers K J George and H K Patil, political secretaries to the Chief Minister K Govindaraju and Naseer Ahmed , Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh , and Additional Chief Secretary L K Atheeq. Their presence underscored the importance of the initiative and its role in promoting civic pride and urban aesthetics.


But the illumination of Vidhana Soudha is only the beginning of a broader city-wide vision. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D. K. Shivakumar shared the government's plans to extend similar lighting projects to other parts of the city. This includes decorative lighting for Metro pillars, flyovers, and other prominent heritage structures—an effort aimed at transforming Bengaluru into a more vibrant and visually appealing metropolis after dark.

With the permanent tricolour lighting at Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru not only celebrates its administrative legacy but also embraces a new era of public engagement and urban beauty. As light meets legacy, the city’s nights just got brighter—and prouder.
