Ind vs Eng 3rd Test: Massive blow for team India Rishabh Pant does not take the field on Day 2 following finger injury

In a major setback for team India, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will not take the field on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord's cricket Ground after having suffered a finger injury on Day 1. Dhruv Jurel, who kept wickets for most of the day yesterday, will continue to don the gloves on the second day.

The BCCI medical team is supervising the 27-year-old. The Board said in a statement that Pant is being monitored by the medical team as he was replaced by Dhruv Jurel behind the wickets.

Pant was visibly in pain after putting in a dive to stop a delivery, which Jasprit Bumrah had sprayed down the leg side in the 34th over of the innings during the second session.

Pant managed to get his hands on the ball but could not stop it entirely as England batters Joe Root and Ollie Pope scampered for a couple of runs.

The play was held up for a while as Pant received treatment on his hand from the Indian support staff, but the wicketkeeper kept shrugging his hands when the action resumed.

Eventually, Pant left the field after the end of Bumrah's over with Jurel taking over the charge of wicketkeeping. It is not clear if he can bat later in the Test.

England ended Day 1 at 251/4 with Joe Root remaining unbeaten on 99. Captain Ben Stokes was batting with the former skipper.
