The Ministry of External Affairs ( MEA) on Thursday said that 1,563 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States in 2025 so far, with the majority returning on commercial airlines.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated in a weekly media briefing, “Since January 20 of this year, till yesterday, some 1,563 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States so far. Most of these Indian nationals have come by commercial flight...”
According to MEA responses in March, 636 Indian nationals had already been deported earlier in 2025, of which 240 arrived on commercial flights.
The deportation figures coincide with heightened scrutiny on immigration enforcement by the US under the current Trump administration. New directives involve high scrutiny of social media accounts of all visa applicants.
Additionally, on the case of Nimisha Priya, Jaiswal said, "The government of India has been offering all possible assistance. We have provided legal assistance and appointed a lawyer to assist the family. We are also in touch with local authorities and her family to resolve this issue. We are also in touch with some friendly governments in this regard."
