In what will be a reverse fixture in the (Indian Premier League), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will clash once again in less than 40 hours after the end of their previous game, halfway across the country. Both teams faced each other in a night game (Match 34) on April 18 and will now meet again in a day game on April 20, in the form of Match 37.
Notably, Match 37 will be held at Mullanpur in Chandigarh, while game 34 took place in Bengaluru. RCB lost the toss and were sent in to bat for the third home game in a row. And for the third home game in a row, RCB's top order collapsed. In a match reduced to 14 overs due to rain, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Marco Jansen blew away RCB’s top order.
At one point, RCB were in danger of breaking their own record for the lowest team total in IPL history. Harpreet Brar compounded the damage, but Tim David became a beacon of hope. From being in danger of getting bowled out for less than 50, David's own half-century took RCB to 95 in 14 overs.
Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya started positively but fell early. Josh Hazlewood produced his restrictive best with a three-wicket haul, including two big ones — Shreyas Iyer and Josh Inglis — in the same over. The game was see-sawing until that point, but Nehal Wadhera’s takedown of Suyash Sharma put the final nail in the coffin for Bengaluru, as they slumped to a third loss in three home games in IPL 2025.
RCB’s season, which started strong, has suddenly become shaky, and this game presents them with an opportunity to get out of a mid-table traffic jam.
