IPL 2025: Iyer's revenge, Chahal's magic & Zinta's hug thrill fans

Send Push

What an epic, mouthwatering match it was! It seemed clearly not the day for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the beginning, but the tables turned around when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) came to bat. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal stood out as a star, performing with back-to-back four wickets in a space of three overs.

With this, Punjab Kings showed an epic fight back while defending a lowly 112-run target. Well, apart from Chahal, for PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, it was big-time revenge against KKR, as the captain has time and again opened up about his frustration when KKR didn't communicate with him regarding his retention before the IPL 2025 season.

Or should we call it Shreyas Iyer's redemption, Yuzvendra Chahal's comeback, or fanchise owner Preity Zinta's belief in her team?

PBKS win against KKR: A revenge for Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer had led KKR to their first IPL title in 10 years but wasn't retained. Following this, he was picked by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore at the mega auction.

In January 2025, Shreyas had said, “We had a conversation straight after the IPL championship, and I was optimistic about staying. But for months, there was no concrete discussion. It was only a week before the retention deadline that I realised where things were heading. That lack of communication was frustrating.”

He expressed that the reward for their title-winning captain was letting him go to the mega auction in Jeddah. But with the historic win against KKR on Tuesday, Iyer silenced all mouths and finally took the revenge.

Preity Zinta looked the happiest; hugs Yuzi Chahal

The PBKS owner, Preity Zinta, was present in the stands and witnessed the historic win of Punjab Kings against KKR. The moment the last wicket was down, she jumped and appreciated the team’s effort.

The happiness totally showed off in her face's radiant glow on Tuesday. Amid this, the PBKS fans can't keep up the calm, as one said, “New Chandigarh deserves to host all 7 home games of PBKS, imo. What an atmosphere today's thriller.”

Another wrote, "Like this tweet if you ever loved Shreyas Iyer, the captain in IPL. From DC to KKR to PBKS, he keeps on delivering the captaincy masterclass."

"Wow: @PunjabKingsIPL defend the lowest total ever in the IPL history & beat @KKRiders by 16 runs. Hero of PBKS win @yuzi_chahal #PBKSvKKR"

" I’ve been watching the IPL for 15 years, and I can say this is the best PBKS team in history."
