Chelseadefender Wesley Fofanahas sent an emotional message to former teammate James Maddison after it was confirmed that the Tottenham midfielder has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
Maddison, 28, suffered the injury during Sunday's pre-season fixture against Newcastle United in South Korea. He went down in an off the ball incident and was forced to be stretchered off by the club's medical staff.
Thomas Frank delivered a concerning update in his post-match interview, admitting he is worried that Maddison, who had been working his way back to full fitness following a long lay-off, has suffered a "bad injury".

Frank's worst fears have since come true, with Spurs announcing on Thursday morning that Maddison is set to undergo surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee - the same one he injured at the end of last season.
Maddison has since received a number of supportive messages and Chelsea star Fofana, who played alongside the England international at Leicester City, has become another to get behind the ex-Norwich City man.
In an Instagram story, Fofana, who posted an image of them hugging, said: "Get well soon my brother, come back stronger for continue to show us your magic," alongside a red love heart emoji and a folded hands emoji.
Fofana and Maddison were teammates at Leicester for two years. The pair were part of the City side that won the FA Cup in 2020/21 and finished fifth in the Premier League table.
While Fofana spent most of the following season out injured after breaking his leg during a pre-season game, he returned for Leicester's Conference League tie against Rennes in March 2022.
Fofana, alongside Maddison, then helped Leicester reach the semi-final of Europe's third-tier competition, only for the Foxes to crash out against Jose Mourinho's Roma in a tight last four affair.
A matter of months later, Fofana left Leicester to sign for Chelsea in a deal worth around £70million. Fofana and Maddison have since played against each-other on a couple of occasions.
Later on Thursday, it was revealed that another Premier League star had sustained a serious knee issue. Indeed, Chelsea announced in a statement that Levi Colwill has undergone successful surgery on an ACL injury.
Fofana, who has been through the mill with his own fitness concerns across recent years, took to Instagram to send a heartwarming message to his Chelsea teammate.
The France international said: "It's going to be a long road but you'll do it, you'll come back even stronger, I'm with you in this difficulty my twins," alongside a red love heart emoji.
Fofana added: "I'm waiting for you," accompanied with a one eye crying face emoji and red love heart emoji.
