Aston Villa star makes Chelsea transfer feelings clear as £45m offer and Man Utd stance revealed

Chelsea have been dealt a blow to their hopes of signing Emiliano Martinez. The 32-year-old goalkeeper currently faces an uncertain future, with Aston Villa under pressure to remain compliant with the Premier League's spending rules.

Martinez, whose contract expires in June 2029, featured 37 times in the English top-flight this season - conceding 45 goals and keeping nine clean sheets. Playing a key role in Unai Emery's team, he helped the Villans finish in sixth and qualify for the Europa League.

The Argentina international also led Villa to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, donning the captain's armband in a historic 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, plus a 4-2 victory against Celtic. His impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed, attracting interest from some top clubs.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Martinez for around £45m. The Argentine has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United as Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his defence.

The report claims that Villa could be forced to cash in on Martinez in order to remain compliant with Profit and Sustainability rules. It's said that Emery's side are aware that the Blues are in the market for a new shot-stopper, with the jury is still out for Robert Sanchez.

The Mirror adds that Martinez would prefer a switch to Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge. But, Amorim reportedly has other priorities, unless he can find a club that's willing to pay £35m for Andre Onana.

Maresca's assistant, Willy Caballero, is thought to be a 'huge admirer' of the Villa star, who has won the Yashin Trophy two years on the trot. Earlier this month, the Chelsea boss addressed the goalkeeper situation at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking with reporters in the United States, ahead of the Club World Cup, Maresca said: "The 'keeper situation is simple, Robert is number one, Filip [Jorgensen] is number two, and we will analyse and judge [Mike] Penders.

"[Mike] Maignan and different players at other clubs - I don't think it's worth talking about them," added the Blues manager. At the start of June, football.london understood that Chelsea were willing to submit a £13m bid for the AC Milan goalkeeper, but the Italian giants wanted in excess of £20m.

So, with a deal unable to be completed before the Club World Cup, the west Londoners pulled out. Fortunately for Chelsea, Maignan has recently entered the final year of his contract at the San Siro, thus forcing Milan to reconsider his future in the coming weeks.

If the France international doesn't sign an extension, then the Serie A side will be have to make a difficult decision. Milan must consider whether they'd rather risk losing Maignan for free next year, or cut their losses and cash in this summer.
